"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." — James 1:27

As Christians, we are called to do more than simply talk about our faith—we are called to live it out. James 1:27 reminds us that true faith is demonstrated through love, compassion, and action. God's heart has always been for the vulnerable, the overlooked, and those who need someone to stand beside them.

When we care for children in foster care, support foster and adoptive families, encourage birth parents, or come alongside those facing difficult circumstances, we reflect the love of Christ. Not everyone is called to foster or adopt, but every believer is called to care.

This summer presents a great opportunity to put our faith into action. Here are a few practical ways you can make a difference:

  • Pray regularly for children in foster care, foster parents, birth families, case workers, and judges.

  • Volunteer with a local foster care or adoption ministry.

  • Provide a meal, gift card, or words of encouragement to a foster family.

  • Donate school supplies, clothing, or other needed items.

  • Offer respite care if you are qualified to do so.

  • Mentor a child or young adult who needs encouragement and support.

  • Raise awareness by sharing information about foster care and adoption with your church or community.

Many of these opportunities can be found through Rise Family, an organization dedicated to supporting foster, adoptive, and kinship families. Whether you're looking to volunteer, donate resources, become a foster parent, provide support to families, or simply learn more about the needs in your community, Rise Family offers practical ways to get involved and make a difference.

Small acts of obedience can have an eternal impact. When we step into the needs around us, we become the hands and feet of Jesus. This summer, ask God how He wants you to serve others and trust Him to use your willingness to make a difference.

Faith is not meant to be passive. It is meant to be lived. As we care for those God loves, we put our faith into action and bring hope to a world that desperately needs it.
